I need help/advice on purchasing an S2

Please can someone help. I am wanting to buy an S2 and was supposed to be looking at one in Bridlington last week but sadly i couldnt get down due to the bad weather. Is there any kind of network on the S series owners club that helps out by checking a car over for you if they are in the locality. I know some car clubs do this type of thing. I understand someone cant tell you 'yes' buy it or 'no' it's rubbish but to just give a general check on things i wouldn;t be able to understand. The car is still for sale, so any help/advice offered i would gladly appreciate, regards Susan

No, there is no "S owners club" as such, just the TVR Car Club. And car inspection is for professionals. Read all the buyers guides (there are a few on line - see links below), then contact your local TVRCC region. If you can get to a local meeting with S owners and their cars, I'm sure they would be happy to point out what to look for.

Thank you for that, i have been on the S series buyers guide and must admit it looks a little like a minefield, i will take your advise and try to get to one of the meetings or at least find someone local with more knowledge than me....which wont be too hard. Thanks again .....

If you want a pro to look at your car Rob Ingleby is often recommended (not used him myself) http://www.findasportscar.co.uk/ or most independent TVR specialists will happily check the car over for you for a small fee. If the seller gets twitchy at either of these suggestions, walk away.....

Just a few links for you regarding TVR in the Lancashire/NW area.

Blackpool - http://www.tvr-blackpool.co.uk. We meet last Sunday of the month during winter (Oct-Mar) or last Thursday of the month rest of the year. Me and Chrischat with S3's are usually there and sometimes a couple of V8S's

TVR specialist garages, who I'm sure would inspect a car if you could get it to them, not sure about them having to travel to inspect.

I would be very wary with MOT only till end of April - seller if you're reading this you need full MOT to get a decent price.

Hi Susan , You will have been impressed I'm sure with the speed and volume of responses on this forum , S owners are very helpful . A date for your diary May 23rd is the annual S series event were you will have a chance to see 50+ cars and pick the brains of some owners if you have not got one by then , if you have one obviously it will need to meet its siblings. Any reason an S2 and not a 1,3or4 ?
RoyC's white S2 should be a good bet , the price is very fair in my view .

I am really wary as had a couple of private emails explaining the pitfalls of the S2, must admit it's not putting me off though as i love the car's but think ill sadly need to look for one a little closer to home as i can't get around the distance and viewing problem.
Just a quick one, is there any mileage in buying one that already has had a lot of work already done, chassis etc.......

Put the date in my diary already....thanks for that. I really am wanting one ASAP but keep getting told, take my time and dont rush into it. No particular reason for the S2, just like the look of them and obviously the noise, hope that doesn't make me sound a tad sad
