Here's a simple bolt-on front brake upgrade, could be cheap...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TVR-Griffith-Chimaera-500-Br...

Complete with the all-important caliper carriers.

Are you sure the carriers are there?
I can see the 2 parts of the caliper but I'm not convinced the carrier brackets are visible.

looks all there to me, you'd need a pair of 260mm sierra with abs discs to go with them (griff ones even if they were included are the wrong offset)

Auction seems to be only for calipers, disk extra due to weight. But why upgrade, who drives their car so they are needed (unless you go sprinting or even track days)

I have emailed the seller and the carrier brackets are NOT included, he needed them for his new calipers.

I have a bizzare recollection that Escort RS Turbo (series 2) calipers fit...

They are Escort RS turbo calipers - identical in every way. biggrin

I have the anorak - I compared loads of part numbers when I upgraded my brakes.

I managed to get some discs of ebay for about a fiver - cos they were advertised as for an RS Turbo - and how many of those are there left?

Hi Chris,
I don't know the answer to either of those questions I'm afraid. However, if you are thinking about a cheap 260mm disc straight bolt-on upgrade, you need the following:

Calipers AND carriers as fitted to the Sierra XR4x4 (and others). The key identifiers are the casting numbers 37 and 38 (left and right hand). For example -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

and pads to match.

Discs as fitted to Escort IV RS Turbo 86-91 (and others). Key dimensions are 260mm diameter, 24mm thick vented disc, 58mm overall height. For example -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

The above should be a direct replacement for the weedy 240mm standard set-up. I've spoken to several S owners who have done this, and all said it made a big improvement.

Regards,
Graham

I've just won a set of callipers from a series 2 escort turbo and disc's and pads so will hopefully be changing my front setup very soon, will look at getting some braided lines too.

Effective I'm sure, but not exactly cheap or simple.

I did the 260mm upgrade on my V8S. Cheap, simple & very effective. You won't be dissapointed.

And no insurance or fitting issues because its all straight from the Ford parts bin. You can even use the old hoses and pipes if you want to. You pays your money and takes your choice. smile

I was trying to figure out why the disc had two lots of mounting holes, when it struck me that there is no spare stud sticking out of those nuts and the wheel isn't on yet. From the picture it looks as if the studs are much too short. Is it an optical illusion?

Hi
Yes the stubs are temp, have the right ones to go in when its all mounted on the car, The discs are from a Jag XF 335 mm X 32 mm, just re drilled them out to the right Pcd, Just about to remove the body to finish the refurbish, hope to move from the drive to a dry workshop next sat.
Been longer than I wanted but on the drive with the weather as it is its not easy to do things.

How much stuff are you replacing to fit this? Hubs? Uprights? Wheels?

How are you sorting out the brake balance? It's going to be massively wrong if you just bolt this on to the existing hydraulics.

Hi All.
Should not be a problem to do, I have replace the master with one from the Lexus LS400 , new pipes and a balance system to be able to set up the balance and lock it to comply with the mot, would just need a few hours on the brake dyno to set up and sort out.
Only changed the hub drive shafts , the rest of the hub is as it caame from TVR
