Replacement Wood Handbrake Grip.

I was not too happy with the appearance of the handbrake grip on my S3C, and it was also ripped so I have been looking for a wooden replacement. The best I could come up with was a replacement from a Land Rover Freelander. It is an original accessory retailing at about £60. I managed to get one of our friendly auction site for a tenner inc post and packing.
For that price I figured it would be worth a go and guess what? It did not fit.
I have now managed to get it to fit and think it looks better than the original but thats just my opinion.
I would not recomend it for any serious racers as it is a bit slippy and very tight to the centre console.
As the shaft of the handbrake lever is tapered, the base needs to be increased to match the new grip. Insulation tape and trial and error seems to work OK. I did not want to use the glue which came with the new one as I want to strip the console out when the weather picks up.
To remove the inner shaft, I placed the plastic end in a vice and rotated clockwise, anticlockwise by hand until the glue cracked. Then removed and discarded the inner shaft.
I angled it slightly and it just misses the console on mine but others may not be so lucky given that they all seem to be different?
As I said above, this is purley a taste thing so please don't hold me to ransom if you try it and it does not fit. After all it is a TVR.
A round one would have been better but I could not find a cheap one to try.

The black one looks wrong (IMHO) when you have a wooden gear knob.

Not done a great deal as yet. Just changed the fuel cap seal and gave the engine a bit of a service.
Plan to pull the box out when the weather picks up and find that oil leak. Will put a clutch in at the same time.
Just been out for a play. Great
Going on the Euro trip if all goes to plan so looking forward to that.
Hope the Griff is going well although I suspect you may have it tucked up for the winter?

This is what I have, though my dash is quite a bit lighter as it has been re veneeered.
Its a BMW gearknob, not sure what off but I guess they are all pretty similar, the gear layout is right for the V8S not sure about the V6? There are other BMW layouts available. its leather & wood and very nice

The hole in the bottom the the BMW gearknob is quite large - in the end I took a one way ticket and took the hacksaw to my original gearknob until I had just the threaded centre bit (imperial on the V8) with some plastic around it - it took a few goes but when it felt a tight fit I put the remains of the original gearknob onto the shaft, then just whacked the gearknob on
its absolutely solid, if I have problems later I'll introduce some glue into the equation. The black part is the remains of the original gearknob, white is part of the BMW gearknob.
