Going through the annual service and need to grease the propshaft UJ's.
Last year had the exhaust off so no problem getting to both the grease nipples.
Exhaust was a right pig to fit back though so need to know if there is a way to access the gearbox end UJ?

The bible talks about being able to get to one of the UJs (can't remember which though) from the little container/box at the rear of the centre console but in the case of my S3C it didn't work as no cut out at all so the only way to grease the UJs was to drop the exhaust down - I did get away with just undoing the 2 centre bolts and the rear mount and supporting the exhaust on the jack but some gentle pulling down was generally needed to get to the grease nipples. Well worth doing it though.

Hi Alan I'm with Jim on this one (nice to see you are keeping an eye on procedings Jim hehe )and I had thought of drilling a hole in the "container box" to allow access from above in future, but never got it done. You would need to do this from below with the exhaust off and then plug it securely (otherwise the plug will dislodge at speed due to the pressure differential in the cabin withthe roof up)

My zort is off that often I just keep greasing the UJ each time rolleyes

Good advice as always. Might end up taking the exhaust off any way as the fuel tank might need checking out.

Is the best way to remove the exhaust by undoing at the top of the hockey sticks at the manifold end. Had a right job the last time undoing at the other end. Couldn't slide the exhaust in without fouling the chassis, managed with the help of a very big hammer and a lot of bad language!

I suppose it depends which joint is the cleanest and easiest to work loose on your car as you dont want to do much twisting on your manifolds... I always leave the hockey-sticks in place and pull the exhaust back over while twisting left to right - you also have to allow the rear to drop so the box clears the chassis... its a fraught time if it doesnt release easily.

Once its off ensure the joints are nice and round and clean with no burrs or gunge before you re-assemble, and that will pay dividends next time you need to remove it.

figure out where the best access to the grease nipple is from above and drill a pilot hole from below. then you can work from above to open the hole up for the grease gun flexi. a rubber blanking grommet will do the plugging job if its a tight fit.

good luck
