Well, the chassis (front - engine bay - part) clean is done...wire-brush, elbow grease, 'gunk' and more wire-brushing - then the rust prevention primer...

Then a couple of coats of hammerite, some new 'bling' bolts for the wishbones & shocks & hey presto...

Now all away until after Xmas frown

All I then have to do is...clean the engine block, put the engine bay back together, attached the new s/s bonnet hinges (thanks Norman thumbup) & bonnet.

Then - re-hang drivers door yikes & start on cleaning up the interior ready for being back on the road in March.

Ah, how time flies when you're having fun biggrin

Cheers

I tried to adjust the alignment of my bonnet and suffered mightily. I could get the bonnet closed with both pins but.............. couldn't reopen it as the stress on the bonnet pins was too high. weeping

I eventually found the best way to adjust it was to put masking tape over the two bonnet catch holes. Then after each adjustment to rest the bonnet down onto the catch holes WITHOUT pushing them home.

This leaves a witness mark on the tape and you can see if they're aligned correctly before you push them home and get them caught. You may have to replace the tape several times before you get it right.

After struggling for hours with random adjustments, it only took about 15 minutes to align everything properly with the telltale masking tape.

Oh and if you do get it stuck in the bonnet catches then get a beautiful assistant (my daughter helped me) to pull on the release lever while you manhandle the bonnet in a brutal but controlled manner to free off the pins. smash

Just thought I'd post an update on work...

Engine bay masked off & engine block de-greased...

Then out came the VHT paint...

Once the masking is all off I just have to start the engine re-build - which includes more paintwork on brackets etc.

Then, 'all' that needs to be done is the door re-hanging yikes

Cheers

I found that when i first got the pin stuck. It was fairly easy to wind the bonnet back and forward on the threaded bar holding it at the front. Just make a note of the original position.
The masking tape works well but i found the pins would only move back so far and had to move the bonnet forward.

Hi I was just wondering how the engine bay clean and repaint was coming along. Currently in the early stages of painting my front chassis but my 2 year old daughter means I don't get much time at it, plus its been cold on the evenings so not much progress really.

Clean up & painting is all done.

Will be fully back on the road bý the end of March.

Will post some photos once I get my laptop back (is poorly with a virus at the minute).

Cheers
