No I'm not having a go at someone hehe I really dont like the dim dip on these cars and as the headlamps have a built-in sidelight (mine do anyway) I was wanting to remove the dim-dip. has anyone done this themselves and can you give some guidance as to how to remove it from he circuit...

I have the wiring diagrams and an idea but would like the assurances of the sages on this forum before I start something I later regret rolleyes

K wink

All I did was remove the Dim Dip module, a "box of matches" size black metal thing which was hanging from wires amongst the rat's nest above the passenger footwell. From memory it had about three or four wires going to it.

I unplugged the module - it was in the top of the glovebox on my car behind the lining.

Why do you want to get rid of dim dip? What harm does it do?? confused

And does it then fall foul of MoT test regs?

Dim dip was abandoned a while back and isn't AFAIK a MOT check. I removed mine because I fitted some extra relays for the main and dipped beams and ran a new fused feed to them. The idea was to bypass the TVR fusebox and old wiring and for the power feed to the lights and what was the power feed before is now just the actuating signal to the relays. This does mean that I have a light stalk/switch that actuates a relay to actuate a relay but that will have to do for the time being.

And the reason for removing the dim dip module was because when running with the side lights on (dim dip mode activated) the new dipped beam relay was getting enough voltage to partly activate it and caused it to buzz. Removing the module so that the dipped beam was on or off only resolved the issue.

Does anyone know how to wire up day time lights so that headlamp main beam comes on at low power?

Isn't that what the dim dip does..? just leave in on and use sidelights during the day.. I'm going to remove mine.. (Good thread this..) as the dim dip spoils the effect of my angel eye headlights..!!

Just a little message to thank you and to illustrate why PH is, and will be always better than FB, even if some people here do his best to sap this wonderful database by redirecting again and again and again people to FB, robing the forum of its fuel : the member questions and answers.

I was working on my 92 S3C to install H4 LED bulbs and get rid with the poor yellowing lighting. The LED bulb was lighting in parking light position, only when the engine was on and I spent hours looking for an explanation. The 290' wiring diagram shew me the strange "Dim/Dip" module ang PH help me to understand this curious device... never seen overseas. After that, I had difficulty locating the box.... and a little sentence, written 15 years ago, helped me to find it :

This box is now removed, LED bulbs installed and the car is lighting incredibly well eek with a genuine look.... not as with the ugly bulging Chinese lens.

Thank you PH, and thank you to all members writing information that can be useful even ten or twenty years later.
