Powder Coating

I'm going to refurbish my front suspension over the winter, replacing bushes etc.. and generally tidying things up cosmetically under the bonnet.

I am planning on using 'epoxy mastic' on most parts of the chassis in situ as it has been highly recommended to me) but I thought that as the front wishbones are going to come off I might as well get them powder coated (along with a few other easily removed component brackets).

So my question is really how much should I expect to have to pay for the wishbones to be powder coated and does anyone have any recommendations for companies in the Bristol area or should I just do the usual Yellow Pages lucky dip?

Also is it ok to have the ARB powder coated or is there likely to be a problem with the coating flaking under the flex?

Cant help you in your area BUT Redditch Shotblasting and Powder Coating in Redditch (Doh) is very good indeed, cant remember prices but very reasonable, done lots for me. I would guess its worth two double journeys

Just had front wishbones,Arb,batt tray,Rad bracket and even suspension springs done with Clarks Coatings Skewen (nr Swansea).Can't comment on the ARB flex concern as the car is undergoing a magor refit,I questioned about the springs but these guys do jobs for local car restorers and experienced no problems so far they say. Looks like they are funding their forthcomming XMas doo £30 the lot.You will have to pay the bridge toll to come into Gods country though! Twice!!!

Thanks Neil, that seems like a really good deal.

By the sound of things it'll be no problem coating the ARB. I feel a couple of trips 'abroad' are on the cards!

forgot to mention these guys do not shot blast and dont forget to remove all rubber bushes, the powder coating process melts everything except metal.

I'd be interested to find out how you get on with your suspension rebuild for that very reason!

I've had stuff powder coated by Griffs Reality Motorworks in Kingswood in the past and they were pretty good and a reasonable price. They were convenient for me as I work in and around the Bristol area. http://www.realitymotorworks.com

One piece of advice, don't get battery acid on your freshly powder coated bits and pieces they don't like it!

Thanks for the info Tom, they should be easier for me to use than someone in Wales. They have done some impressive work judging by the galleries on their website.

I'll let you know how I get on with the suspension (front) although I plan to just follow the article in 'Sprint' a few months ago which looked fairly straight forward. Famous last words I suspect.

Good luck with finding a suitable lock up.

This may be of interest, it was on their site
