Smooth running at last.

Well after a summer of the car running like a bag of s**t, I seem to have finally got her running great. Car kept miss-firing primarily when going around a left bend/turning, but occasionally on a straight. Was convinced it was electrical,so all connectors were checked and cleaned, things replaced etc. but it still continued.
So in the end decided to check the fuel system. The pump and filter were actually changed early on when the the problem occurred as the pump had always been noisy. We borrowed a fuel pressure test kit and after managing to create the miss-fire could see that fuel pressure all most went to 0. So had a look inside the tank and you could see rust particles sitting on the bottom.
So tank came out last week and think I found my problem. This is the filter as I took it out of the bottom of the tank.
After Cleaning
Also treated the inside of the tank following Elfit's (Tim) instructions in this topic http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... (my patio now has a nice silver stain on it where the amount of POR15 coming out when draining took me by surprise) and gave the outside of the tank and the supporting frame a clean and a few coats of Hammerite (Dark Green)
All reassembled yesterday and a quick drive this morning and it drives great again

Thats some serious dirt in that filter!
Did you use THIS in your tank?
I'm thinking that I ought to invest in some - my tank has been empty for 2 years so I'll never get a better opportunity, I just worry it might give me leaks if I remove the sender & filter at the bottom of the tank.

Chris, that's the stuff. I got the pack that contains cleaner, rust stuff and the por15.

As Tim says in the link in my OP, you need to make sure that the tank is dry before you use the POR15, this was hard to achieve for me as I had to do it outside and had to get it done for this weekend as the car was taking up space where i was keeping it. As the tank is split into 2 or 3 sections you can only see into 1 area (mine actually wasn't to bad after I had used the cleaner and rust cleaner), but you have no idea what the other sections are like.
I got the new locking rings and washers from Sussex Classic Car Parts on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ARA1501-2-FUEL-SENDER-LOCKIN...
My bottom locking ring was a right mess, and after taking it on and off a few times over the week, I had to cut it off in the end.
