As the car in it's winter hibernation state (no bonnet, engine in bits, etc.) I (foolishly) decided to check out some other areas of the car...

Took off front wheels, removed the inner wheel arch...put my fingers around the n/s front of the outrigger & discovered a ROUND HOLE in the rear of the front outrigger tube No idea how long it's been there...

So, can this be 'got to' with a partial body lift or do I have to go the whole hog (and enter unknown terrority for this VERY BASIC DIY mechanic)???

Does anyone know of a reputible place I can go to to have the work done - in West Yorkshire? Would need to transport the car on a trailer (ideally have it picked up) & how much I could be looking at to have the work done?

Any help, ideas would be much appreciated - now going away to have a good cry

Although a bit further than you would like nearest I can think of would be RT Racing at Sheffield.
Have a worth with them about pickup - most places will do a flatbed trip for £1 a mile or so.

If its just the front bit then partial lift should be enough. But could (probably) be worth just doing the lot if you are starting on the chassis. The welding is not that difficult and any good mobile welder should be able to do it at your place if you do the strip/bodylift work etc. I'd be tempted to go that way if I was you

I did my front corners with a partial lift as the rest of the tubes were ok, the only extra work needed was the 'Z' shaped seat belt mount. Go for it and if you get stuck they can still come and pick her up to finish it off.

I think I'm going to get most of my (pre-hole) jobs done first then take a view in the New Year - probably go down the 'DIY partial lift' so I can fully inspect all of the chassis. If then further 'nastys' turn up I can arrange for the whole job to be done. Note to self - must make more room in the garage (for storage of bits)

Have used RT before and they do pick up - Rich Thorpe did my S/S exhaust & fuel tank in 2004 (he also wax-oiled the chassis at the time). Did a good job so I have no problem sending it to him to carry out any work required.

At least I should be able to do most of the 'labour' work before sending the chassis away (if it comes to that).
