Battery Leads - Replace? Extend?

I have been looking into changing the battery on my V8S and have found a number of batteries that should fit my tray (278mm x 175mm) with a slightly higher CCA (which I understand is a good thing?)
The only problem is that the '+' and '-' terminals on these batteries (Bosch Silver) are the opposite way round and I don't have sufficient length in my battery cables to reach?
The earth lead looks like it has seen better days and pops through the boot floor to a chassis earth point, so should be relatively easy to replace 
. I assume that the main power feed goes from the battery to the starter? Is it feasible (and safe) to extend this with the appropriate clamped connector and additional cable to give me the additional length I require?
