painting brake drums and calipers

The previous owner of my S3, whilst looking after her exceptionally well, painted the rear drums and front calipers a bright blue colour which I personally don't like. I have Chim wheels so you can really see the discs clearly.

So the question is: what colour SHOULD they be and what sort of paint should I use to paint them?

i thought that they were all fitted with rubber brake dust shields and that you couldn't see anything, at least mine are.

I ditched the rubber shields and to be honest I dont see many fitted...

I painted calipers red - same as Chassis (Hammerite smooth) and drums black

I've got standard Oz 8 spokes so they look OK (for me) not too bling but tidy...

And mine ! might be practical but you don't buy a TVR to be practical

Hate to admit shopping there but I used Halfords Brake Caliper paint on calipers and some high temp. black paint on drums (from a motorcycle shop).



Six months later not quite so shiny but seems to be standing up to heat pretty well

Wouldn't have thought the drums would get too hot, painted mine with black hammerite. The front callipers were just given a quick coat of silver high temp paint i was using elsewhere. Made them look a lot better, will have to do a proper job at a later time.

Mine are the same colour as Mike's (above) - used brake caliper paint (have the larger discs fitted as well - so when looking through the wheel all you can see is disk & caliper). Painted the rear drums the same colour as well - IMO they look good.
