V8s Code Reader

In Steve Heaths book he says that fault code readers for the V8s cars were specialised and too expensive. Is anybody aware if this is still the case, I am sure I saw some mention of a Lucas type code reader available?

They're a standard RR part, somebody on PH had one for hire fairly cheaply but I think they may have stopped now, I think Steve himself sells them now, and if you got desperate I'm sure you could pick up a new one via a LR dealer (but that would probably be a relatively expensive option).

However, you won't have a socket wired into your loom for it. You will need to fit some extra pin connectors into the ECU plug in order to splice it in. Steve Heath is about to start selling an alternative:

and reckons he will be able to tell you how to connect it (I know, 'cos I'm going to get one and asked him).

The original LR unit was only available in the US/Canada and has been obsolete for several years now.

I nearly have the first production batch of my code reader completed - still waiting for some more cases!

I have the connections for the flying lead and I am sourcing the terminal pins that go into the big plug to make a retrofit flying cable so even if the ECU doesn't have the lead fitted, it can be added.
