Steve, you could try a spray of this (find it on Ebay), once rust is there its there if that makes sense but some of this stuff may hold it back a bit ?



And the can sticks to walls for easy storage !

Sorry to butt in on the thread but thought I'd say that ACF50 is fing brilliant. I've already got through a can coating all the chassis I can see that has powder coating coming off and use it on the push bike too. Gets absolutely everywhere though and I have the outline of my outriggers on the drive where it dripped off after I applied it. Even torrential rain hasn't moved the oil from the drive so looks like it should be good for the outriggers.

If you really want to remove rust or paint before painting leave the object for a day in vinegar. Strips everything off. Don't know about chrome though and you'ld need a really big tank for a chassis!

I saw it on a website and didn't really believe it till I tried it. I used left over beetroot vinegar. Cleaned the rust and smelt interesting as well.

I'll have to find some cheap vinegar, took me absolutly ages with a wire brush and wet-n-dry to clean up my rocker covers!

Using ACF-50 is like spraying WD40 on you car but as oppose to dripping/evaporating off it just stays there. It gets covered in crap from the road but a little rinse and it all falls off really easily. It'll be great for your quad bike I'd think

you do need to re-apply it from time to time
