I will be getting a new battery this week as the old one is now starting to show its age even though the battery conditioner is being used when its in the garage. I recall a series of posts some time ago re what to get but despite a search I can't find the thread. I have used 078 batteries (56ah) for some time and they seem to be Ok but I wonder if there is anything with a bit more umph?
A new Varta 078 with 4 year warranty is just under £60 unless there are other better recommendations? (I note the correct battery is shown as an 069 which is now a non standard size - I assume as not in the current BCI size list - and only available in certain specialist makes - that is same length as the 078 but slightly narrower 173mm v 179mm but a bit higher 225mm v 196mm but I think 70ah?). Is anyone using an 069/does it fit OK heightwise? Looking at the size table there is little choice so what any better recommendations?

Later - I've just checked the web for Granada battery size and that says the Scorpio (which I'm fairly sure has the same V6 engine in it) uses an 092 (55ah) battery so it looks as if the 078 is fine so unless any better ideas .....

If the car is not used for significant lengths of time its a good idea to go for a calcium type battery as they are more resistant to sulfation of the plates which is common with lack of use.
Halfords do a calcium version of their batteries but they do cost a bit more. If you know someone with a trade card that knocks about 40% off.
