stainless petrol tank

Hi, been to the pub tonight, just chatting, like you do, someone i was talking to said it's not a good idea to have a stainless steel petrol tank, because you can't earth it properly, not being a auto electrician
i'm not sure.

Just passing on what i heard.

Maybe someone will confirm this guy is talking sheite, if not i'm glad i
remembered to post this, soooo many little engineering things out there
that some people should leave to the pros.

Doesn't the earth wire go onto the sender unit anyway ?

You can earth stainless as you can any metal. You may just get a slightly high resistance joint due to dissimilar metals being in contact and higher corrosion rates ( not in th SS I hasten to add). In the navy all our nuclear systems are SS including motor casings etc which obviously have to be earthed properly. Crux is has to be done properly like everything
