My web site is broken
Discussion
Russ 35 pointed out to me at BNG last weekend, that my web site wasn't working.
I moved house last weekend, and my kind ISP decided to cut off all my old services on the Friday (even although I hadn't asked them to) so the web site and all my email addresses disappeared.
I thought the new services were to be connected today, but they weren't: all I got was a phone line. Despite the fact that I'm with the same ISP, they can't keep my web site going, give me the same email addresses, or the same home phone number. I can't name them obviously but the whole episode is virgin on the ridiculous.
Anyway, it seems that the earliest date for connection of new broadband facilities, and the provision of the necessary web space, is another 10 days away, so I hope the web site will be back shortly after that.
I'm still writing it up offline!

Thats why I use a seperate firm to host my site (albeit through my son's work so it is free). I started building my site on a well known company's platform but had problems with uploading and the site crashing. The help lines in India were worse than useless, the letters of complaint fell on deaf ears and even today I can't upload to the site but at least they have cleared off the content so I don't get an email from the "bearded wonder's minions" every day telling me the site is over my limit. It took 6 months, numerous phonecalls and 3 letters of complaint to get that bit sorted.

I think you're right - paid web hosting is the way to go. I've made some inquiries so we'll see how that goes.On a brighter note, my Cerbera passed its MOT this morning - I only took it in to find out how big a list I would have to fix! Into every life a little joy must fall. Now if I could only be sure I've fixed the overheating...
Well after much faffing about, I have decided to follow Mark's advice and host the site elsewhere - it's all set up and uploading now, so should be all back to normal by morning...
I got an email from the big V this morning saying my broadband services will be set up today. Don't quite know how they proposed to do that seeing as I haven't got a modem / router yet... Needless to say, they were wrong so I'm still not connected.
Thank the lord for PAYG modems!
