What do I do under the bonnet???

Well have finally got fed up of the tatty under bonnet insulation. Tried to restick it up but failed so today ripped the whole messy thing off, scrapped and wire brushed to remove as much old stickum and bits of foam as possible.
But what to do now, replace it - David Gerald quoted £160 for replacement insulation (46cm x 118 cm), no doubt will be able to buy cheaper else where, or leave it off and just paint the under sider of thebonnet. Suggestions please.

Hi Norman, funnily enough been having a tinker this evening sticking my insulation back on where coming adrift in a couple of places amongst other things. £160 for about a sq. metre of plastic covered foam strikes me as a touch expensive,to put it politely !
If you go for the leave off and paint option how about something like this . . ebay 160336730115 (how do you do those clever little links ?) Stone chip I have used in the past goes on very thick and dries with a heavy orange peel effect, probably quite suitable for "wrong side" of fibreglass and covering glue remnants etc.
Ps my insulation isn't too bad but maybe get discount for two pieces, like about 90% ! !

Thought about how to cut the sound-deadening mat and decided to do the job in three pieces as it was surprisingly heavy.
First piece was cut to fit inside the scoop on my S2 and was 31cm at the top, 35cm at the bottom and 55 cm high
In hindsight it could have been 1.5 or 2 cm wider and that would have been better
I then cut the remainder in two unequal pieces to suit
Then got some aluminium tape from Maplins to cover the joints and help stick down the mat
Visually very pleased will take the car out tomorrow for a test to se if it has reduced the mechanical noises and will probably tape down the outer edges as well but that will mean buying an other roll of tape at £2.29 - dont know if I can afford it.

Yes but its still very sticky (no doubt if I dropped it 'butter side down' on the carpet it would have an instant and irremovable bond). I have spoken to Noisekiller and they are investigating. Their normal market is your actua tin box but they have sucessfully supplied and fitted to fibre glass cars previously. Their MD has undertaken to get back to me in a week or so and is confident that thet will be able to solve the problem.
White spirit might (only might) be the problem.
I feel it never completely dries, leaving an almost oily residue, that you wouldn't want to paint non oil based paints on, let alone glue something to it.
I would have used something more like meths or petrol as a cleaner (the sort of stuff that evaporates, unlike white spirit.
This is just my opinion, others may disagree, i hope you get it sorted, it looks
rather tasty.

I wonder if the matting dropping off could get tangled anywhere - although probably not on the Tiv. I well recall a guy who lived next door to us many years ago; he had a Renault 5 which was kept outside and over the winter he'd put a blanket over the engine to keep it a bit warmer and help cold starts. One morning I heard him get in the car and back violently off his drive (quite normal for him to start and then rev/drive like a loony from the off!) - anyway you've already guessed - he got almost to the end of his drive when there was a lovely noise and the car stopped. Bonnet lifted and much loud cursing as the blanket was all over the engine bay tangled up everywhere ...

Well stuck it back on following instructons from Noisekiller eg rough the surface with emery paper and clean with white spirit. Did all that months ago and it stayed completly stuck. Now got some heat resistant aluminium tape to cover joints and the edges and it looks very good (not sure it cuts noise down though).
