I'm wondering where I get the new polyurethane engine mounts from as my standard ones are too soft and the sump is getting ground away on the exhaust as well as excessive engine movement?

I've seen a previous mention of rally design but I had a look and there are a lot to choose from!

Just thought I'd get them done while the head is getting sorted.

Thanks

Thanks! Sure these will these do the trick? I've got rubber already and it isn't enough. I don't know how thick my ones are but I could check...I've got a feeling these 50mm are bigger though. I'm turning into a very cautious chap. tongue out

IMHO these are definately what you want, fitted a pair myself recently (not exactly a fun job) don't believe there is such a thing as polyurethane engine mounts, bit of good old rubber can't be beat sometimes !

Old on left new on right if not obvious !

It sounds as though something has been bent a bit here, the exhaust should move up and down with the engine to some degree. Check you dont have a problem when the new mounts have been fitted.

If the engine mounts are shot the sump grounds on the ARB

I thought you had them replaced by TVR fix when it was with them earlier this year ? If not they replaced a couple on mine using ones from Rally as recomended by Gerald.

Hi Guy, how you doing? How's the car?

I did have them replaced about 2 months ago and they are almost certain it came from TVR Car Parts (50mm) but he doesn't seem to have a record of this purchase when I called him today. Eitherway, I wanted to know the rubber density difference between those ones and the Rally Design ones - which I believe, and you lot have confirmed, are superior.

I was told by an ex Ford rally neighbour of mine that my mounts are too soft and I should go for heavy duty ones - he actually said polyurethane but I can only see competition ones for Escorts etc...

I'm annoyed about having to replace the ones on there and if this isn't going to help then I'm throwing money away again.

Engine may sometimes touch the ARB because I can hear a metalic 'ting' when accelerating from first gear sometimes. Manifolds could be bent and this causes the exhaust to rub on the sump, not helped by the crap engine mounts. I'm thinking I may need the manifolds heated up and bent away to give me some clearance if the mounts don't do the job.

Do you lot agree with this analysis?

Cheers all

I had a similar 'ting' on mine.

It was the alternator clipping the chassis when the engine twisted on the mounts during acceleration.

I have new rubber mounts as above ready to fit during the rainy season.

Engine mount replacement is a twa t of a job.. best done with car on a ramp from underneath... I'd get a garage to do it.
I't didn't make any noticeable difference to the drive but it did stop the sump chaffing the ARB.
I had gear box mount done too.. which subsequently developed a rubbery squeak.. this has disappeared now.

Hi Pierce,

Only picked it up on Monday ( It had been ready for a while tho ) so aiming to give it a blast this afternoon.

If your current engine mounts are not up to the job it should be down to the garage to fit some that are IMHO.

Let me know when all sorted.
