Took my car in for a service the other day to a reputable local garage!?! When i came to start it the next day the battery was flat!
Bumped it ran for an hour in the sun last sat, came to start it on monday and the bugger was flat.
Up until after the service the car could be left for 2-3 weeks without a run and would start first turn of the key.

Question1

Do batteries just collapse?

Question2

If not how do i approach the garage in question?

Question 3

If they do just stop working then anyone know of a decent price?

Any answers please, before i take the law into my own hands and drive my gfriends piece of german machinery through their prized collection of e types!!!!

Hi Martin,

In answer to your question:

1/ Yes they can just stop working.
2/ Should perhaps just ask them to recheck the electrics?
3/ Batteries are easily available from many different dealers and you should be able to get a new one for less than £45.

I have had similar problems with my car not starting in the past and it was due to the battery connections not being tight enough! the car would run but did not get enough charge into the battery to get it started the next time - especially after lying for a few days. It is always worth a try? and cheaper than a small claims court case...

Best of luck.

Martin,

Make sure you get a battery that fits the tray and clamp on your S2, as most don't.

Batteries seem to last around 4 years, depending on use. If you don't use the car most days, keep it plugged in to a battery conditioner to prolong it's life and maintain full power.

I would concur with the comments already made, especially when it comes to getting a battery that will fit the clamps on an TVR S.

It is entirely possible that the garage damaged your battery, but very difficult to prove. Is the battery you came away with the same one that went in?

It is not unknown that garages use your car to jump start another. If they connected the leads the wromg way around???????

Your only recourse in the absence of any proof is to stump up and buy a new one.

I recently bought one from a local Auto Parts dealer for £45....just ensure it has the correct ratings 600Ah rings a bell. Beware that the correct battery from Halfords was about £80.
