OK OK apologies, but I have sold my old wheels to Profstoff so the poor old girl doesn't have any wheels!

I have a brand new set of slots in the box but I need to buy some tyres.

I'm looking at 205/60x15 VR rated.

I'm looking on black circles and contenders for me are Toyo Proxes and Continental Premium Contact 2's.

I don't know anything about the Toyo's and they are quite a bit cheaper - I've used Continentals in the past and have always been very impressed.

Does anyone have direct experience of either on an S?

Other tyre recommendations welcome, bkackcircles seem to be very well priced does anyone have any other suppliers (Nottingham way) that can beat them?

Hi Chris

I have nothing to compare with as my S has always been fitted with the Continentals but I can say that they inspire confidence (especially in the wet) and when the time comes to replace them I will be doing a direct replacement...

K wink

I was wondering about the "In the wet" bit...

absolutely essential if you drive in our wonderful British Summers

Not that important if you dont want to get your beautiful chassis wet and dont take it out in the rain ?

K hehe

Chris

I use Toyos on my S3 and they are fine - I use them for Sprinting as well as on the road. Have sprinted in the wet and they have been fine.

Chris,

More than happy with my current Dunlop SP9000's. As good as Goodyear NCT F1 Eagles were.

Avoid Michelin though.

All IMHO.

I've gone for the Toyo's with this outfit.

http://www.event-tyres.co.uk

They seem keenly priced and they come to me to fit, which suits me fine.
I've ordered a couple of Toyo's for my daily drive too, £359.99 for 6 tyres doesn't feel too bad.

Maybe I should buy a few rubber shares.

Another thing to consider is the age of the tyre when bought new... Autoexpress is running a campaign to have "sell by" dates as they claim that the performance of tyres significantly deteriorates after four years so "new" tyres may have been manufactured some time ago and even earlier than 4 years ago in some cases. The Manufactured date is shown on the tyre wall somewhere ~ check when you buy, especially "bargains"

I bet most S's are shod with tyres in excess of 4 years of age, due to their use/mileage...

Just FYI really...

K wink

Interesting article Kevin.
If price wasn't an issue I'd have gone for the Continentals, but £50 difference for a set was a saving too large to ignore.
Plus my daily hack needs the front slicks changing, they are Michelins at the moment but Jesus H Christ how much are they? eek
Toyos ordered for that too so I hope they are good!

My regions TVRCC RO is the manager of the local National Tyres and autocare and recommends Toyos, as well as having them on his Chim so they must be pretty good. I use Goodyear Eagle F1s though as they were on the shelf when I needed them in a rush.

What Toyo's are you using? T1-R's?
I've ordered Proxes CF1's but now I'm not at work and have read up on them they seem more of a saloon car tyre, where the T1-R's are more sports orientated - but only available in 55 profile, whereas CF1's are available in 60 as original.
I know there's not much in it between 55 & 60 profile, and I had 55's on the front with the old wheels.

So - do I change my order to T1-R's at 55 profile or what?

Chris

I'll check the exact model of mine when I get home tonight & let you know - I had to special order mine to match the size of the original Bridgestones I had on - I'll also provide you with a photo of the tread pattern.

I'm not sure if they do the size you want Chris but when I needed new tyres last year the Bridgestone ER300 (Touranza - V rated) was very highly rated both in the wet and dry. I had some fitted and have been very well pleased with them; no problems in the wet at all so they may be worth thinking about. There was quite a long post about them I think incl some ratings in terms of wet/dry wear, etc. so could be worth a look.

I've decided to go with the Toyo's I've ordered - the higher performance ones (but 55 profile only) are on back order and Toyo are not releasing any delivery dates. I need to get some tyres on the car before I go and spend it on something else! Anything will be better than bare rims!

Hi Chris
I've finally checked, mine are Toyo Proxes T1-S 205/55x 15 88v. I am pleased with them and would have them again at replacement time (soon after burnouts at S Club ) smokin
