I'd been into town in the morning and the weather was nice with a few clouds(despite the forecast of some heavy showers) and was debating what to have for lunch then thought about fish and chips at a nice place we know just outside Backpool. Got the S out and had a nice drive down roof-off with plenty of sun but it did cloud over a little just as we got there but seemed OK with no sign of rain being imminent so went in the chip shop and sat down. I'd just got the food in front of me when the heavens opened; I rushed out and put the roof up but the seats were soaked and so was I. The fish and chips were good though as the girl had put them to keep warm for me at the request of SWMBO.

After eating it had stopped raining so I got out the two bits of towel I keep in the boot for emergencies and sat on that drove home by which time the weather was dry so left the car for a few mins with the windows open but then had to put it in the garage with the windows down, etc. as it started to rain again.

Later in the afternoon I decided to tighten up one of the hoses at the nearside of the engine - the one that goes to the pipe to the radiator as I sometimes get a small drip on the floor from somewhere there and decided that must be it. I got the car jacked up and tried the contortionist approach and eventually got it a little tighter by carefully using a 1/4 in ratchet but not enough to make me think that was the problem so decided to check all the other hose clamps round that area as well. I tightened them all a little but the one on the hose from the pipe in front of the engine which curls up and is bigger at the top than the bottom seemed a litle slack but - oh dear - it was the clamp failing! Much annoyance as I couldn't leave it to see if it was OK and it isn't the easiest to replace, but lying across the engine managed to take off the old clamp and put on a new one thankfully without disturbing the hose (which had been a bit of a pig to put on last year).
There must be a lesson there for me ... anyway the car is now dry inside but is the little drip sorted? - time will tell.

Hi Jim, I don't know when all you die hard enthusiasts are going to learn, if you never put the roof down your seats will never get wet (well maybe only a little) laugh

The only way i have ever found to cure a dripping hose joint/jubilee clip is to drain the system yikes and dismantle the joint and dry it completely and then re-assemble, as the coolant already in the joint will draw even more through and make it virtully impossible to stop leaking.
good luck.
cheers.....Tony..

An interesting thought Tony re the drip but its so small I'm not going to worry about it. The bum has now dried out as has the car but sadly the roof is still up .. even though its in the garage ..
