I have the roof off my S1 for some repairs to the rear folding section and have noticed that the velcro almost fell off the body and looks a right mess. What function does this have? Has anyone used a different fixing type? I was looking at stud type fixings (not press studs but similar).

I cannot think of another way really.

I did the bit on the bodywork about 18mnths back with some velcro I got from Halfords, but it didn't do a very good job, edges started lifting after a few months to the point none of it stayed stuck to the bodywork. So I've just done it again with some 2 inch wide velcro I got from a local fabric shop. The glue on this is very sticky and I also made sure I cleaned all the old glue from the bodywork first.

I think Russ is right - if youhad press studs and forgot to undo them you'd probably rip the hood or do some damage to the body.
Did you stick the last lot on in cool weather?
It makes a massive difference to adhesion if the panel is warm when you stick it on, if its cool give it a gentle waft with a hairdryer when your wife is out biggrin

I found that during rain the water some how got over the body edge and filled the "water tanks" below the seats. My solution was to cut some bike inner tube with nicely curved ends wide enough to overlap where the hood had shrunk a bit, attach the velco to those and they velcro-ed nicely to the hood. If my explanation is not clear I can post a photo to explain it better. Looks better than it probably sounds.
