A short video made by my brother who filmed much of the progress by us (myself, my dad, my buddy Doug (midgeman), plus able mechanics Rick and John Lovelock. Excellent stuff, I had a good run today!

Looks like you had some fun doing that.

Did I spot a coolant hose going through the fan belt in the last 10seconds?

Yes it was most educational to say the least wink

Yes you did, I can't see another way of taking the hose to be honest, save over the top but Norman's Gerald has it the same way. I know it mean ripping the hoses if the belt snaps eek

That's the lazy way. Take it off now and do it properly with a longer hose, like this (no 31):

Ordinary straight hose will do this if you get the curves right. If there's a trendency to kink anywhere, add a jubilee clip as in the picture above.

Well done anyway!!!

I cant believe what you have done with the coolant hose eek!!!! After spending time and effort to get that far, engine looks really clean and painted up nice.

So driving along and the alternator belt snaps, no problem, I keep a spare in the boot. 5 minutes later and- Oh st, will have to drain the system, cut the coolant pipe!!!!! Haven't got a spare one of them, haven't got 8 litres of coolant or any antifreeze. Broken down, miles from home, wish I had spent 10 minutes extra putting that coolant pipe in the right place.

Get it done correctly , you know it makes sense beer

You can easily swap the alternator belt with minimal fluid loss. The old one is already gone so get the new one to hand, carefully and slowly remove the pressure cap to release pressure, loosen the jubilee clip on the hose then pull the hose off and slip the new belt in and then quickly slip the hose back on. You'll lose so little fluid that you'll be fine. I bet that a lot of you guys run with lower fluid levels now than I would have after swapping an alternator belt - my swirl pot runs 100% full yet there are so many posts on this forum indicating that people run with fluid levels several inches lower in the swirlpot and they run ok.

The advantage of routing the pipe through the belt is that you get rid of the air lock that is above the height of the reservoir cap seal and that is the reason I went for routing mine through the belt many years ago. Also it meant I could use a plain piece of pipe rather than find the shaped over the belt pipe.

It wouldn't look pretty but you could always thread the coolant hose through a spare belt aswell as the running one and cable tie it out of the way.

I've just replaced the brake servo to plenum pipe due to it cracking on the 180degree turn and have used a couple of these unicoil formers. I got them from Burton Power https://www.burtonpower.com - cheaper than cbsonline
