Someone to fiddle with my block
Discussion
Hi,
Taken my S off the road for a bit so I can sort the interior and have some cherrybomb silencers fitted.
I'm looking for somewhere to take it to have the engine fine tuned.
I rebuilt the engine over christmas and aside from a slight problem with an injector (a 2 month problem), it was back on the road.
After the rebuild it was okay but it felt like it was lacking slightly. Assuming I've rebuilt it correctly, is there anything that can be tweaked or is it a simple plug it all back together and it will set itself up, which I've been told by some garages.
It's not running badly, just not quite right. It pops on the over run, which I like, but being injection shirley this should happen? Could be wrong.
So is there anywhere that specialises in the 2.9 V6 or can deal with one. Garages round my way won't even look at it.
Cheers

Cheers for that, will probably give them a bell over the next week.Popping on the over-run may be pretty normal, certainly won't complain if it is. The problem is, I'm unsure what to set the timing at. Some books say 10 btdc, others say 13 and I've heard people on here say their's is at 15.
May have to use the old fashioned 'trial and error' method.
Cheers
The timing depends on which ECU you have.
If you have a 86GB 12A650AC ECU then this was mapped for 98RON and was set to 12 BTDC but if you run 95RON fuel now then general concensus is to set it to 8 BTDC.
If you have a 88BB 12A650JA ECU then this is mapped for 95RON so set it to the recommended 12 BTDC.
When settign the timing you MUST get the engine to full operating temperature and from my experience the only sure way to get the engine in service mode is to use the fault code reader. Others will disagree and say that removing teh TPS achieves that but I never get consistent results that way.
