Exhaust Manifold Gasket
Discussion
Hi Folks
I have had my S2 for 10 years now !!! OMG it doesnt feel like it
Anyway, i can solve most problems and alot of that is thanks to the forum, but i do have 1 question:
my offside exhaust manifold gasket is blowing, so i will need to replace the gasket. But before i start....
I am a little concerned that the manifold hasnt been removed for at least the 10 years that I have had her, so the bolts could be solid in the head.
Am i facing an easy job ?
or is it easier to give it to my local Tiv specialist just in case the bolts snap in the head ?
Thanks
G

Fitted new manifold gaskets a while ago and although there was an improvement were still blowing. when manifolds removed reason became clear, faces were not flat and when gasket laid on manifold, hole in gasket did not line up with hole in manifold on a couple of ports meaning the seal ring part of the gasket wasn't getting squashed all round. lots of welding and filing later noise now comes out the back of the exhaust, where it should !
Also cut out the big links between the three ports thinking this may allow things to flex a little and pull up flat to the heads.

Hi Phillpot
I had the exact same problem when i went to collect it, after all the work. Still blowing.
They have now had to re-weld & grind the face and cut off the manifold flange connecting the 3 pipes, then made a fresh new flange that was flatter & of course flat. Saw it today and its all sandwiched together and pasted for good measure to ensure its leak free.
Just need to fix the failing electric window (started playing up today) and then i can go and collect her........ shortly followed by a nice long blast to celebrate
