Hi, just playing under my S2, and noticed this bracket, it looks like this
comes off to remove the box, without removing the engine, but didn't think S2's had this.

Am i lucky and tvr fitted this to some S2's (maybe later ones) or is
this not what i think it is, see piccy below
thanks

That is as per the S3 (see pics on my website www.gbsportscar.com), someone may have cut and remade this before for you so you may well get away without removing the engine - I'd have a go if it was me if it won't come out you can always revert to the other route and will only have wasted a few hours.

It is however missing a hole in the middle that you need to put a socket through to undo the gearbox mount securing bolt

Hi, mark, i don't need to do anything yet, but do i need that hole to undo the gearbox before it will come out, i thought the removeable plate/bracket would come out with the gearbox. If i'm missing something here, let me know. If i am, and need that hole, i could drill it out, if, i could see a photo of where the hole should be. Like i say don't need it yet, i just noticed it could come off, meaning, something like a new thrust bearing or clutch, is'nt an engine out jobbie. Hehe.

I'm quite happy so far, and did think, if i ever had to do the job, i would cut out the welded section, and get the removable part made up.

The two vertical bolts fasten the gearbox mount to the bracket welded to the chassis and the center bolt fastens the gearbox to the mount. Once all the bolts are removed the gearbox can be raised slightly and the mount removed allowing the box to dop through the space where the cross member has been removed. The mount rests on top of the welded bracket and has to be removed to allow the box to tilt down through the chassis.

Hope this helps

Tony

PS if there isn't a bolt in the centre of the plate then I don't know what is securing the box to the mount.

This is what mine looks like with the bracket and mount removed... my bracket had to be removed before I could access the mount bolt as it had no central hole... sounds like that would be a good development if you were not replacing the mount itself, but if I had the gearbox out I would replace the mount anyway as its cheap enough and is a bu99er to get at so why not do it while you are there...
