Strange mis fire cured
Discussion
hello all...shame I couldn't come to SCH but I had a problem that has taken a while to sort out.
The car developed a strange sort of stuttering misfire under load a few weeks ago. Would rev up cleanly when not under load. A couple of the HT leads were past their best so I ordered a new set from Burton power. Didn't make any difference.
I'd also ordered a new dizzy cap and rotor arm, but they sent the wrong ones and I had to wait until this Tuesday for them to be exchanged.
Anyway, fitted them as well, and also cleaned and gapped the almost new spark plugs as well.
In the mean time I have also removed the connector near the coil and soldered the wires, and had the throttle pot and ISCV off as well.
Anyway, none of this soretd it out, and in fact it was as good as undriveable tonight when I took it out again.
In desperation, I started looking at the induction system to see if I had any leaks. I removed the throttle pot again and re sealed it, and also noticed that there was part of the inlet hose from the air flow meters to the plenum that had rubbed down to the wire. If I bent it, the hose would part by a fraction of a mm, but still not exactly split. Anyway, I sealed it up with insulating tape.
Took the car out and it is completely cured...revs up better than ever, possibly the new ignition parts.
So anyway, just one for those of you who have the sort of stuttering under load problem that I had....check those hoses.
cheers

Really appreciate you posting. I've been trying to diagnose a similar problem but have not got anywhere. I posted a thread and several people were kind enough to post up suggestions which I've been working through but still not got it running properly. It's now turned into a 'challenge'. I wish I had the mindset to just give up and put it into the garage but unfortunately all my weekends are gone until it's been cured.
Will start looking for leaks later this afternoon
