For years the tacho hasn't gone back to zero (rests at 1k when off), but now the speedo is doing it too.
Any advice on what might be causing this? Only thing I could think of is it is trying to impress me!

Also got an advisory from the German TUV that the RH steering tie bar was a bit sloppy and would probably fail next time. Any info on part numbers and availability and/or problems inherent in doing the job?
Thanks

The tacho I think is due to the fact that when you turn the ignition off it cuts the power so it stops at the idle speed. Mine does it, I think they all do it.
Speedo I haven't a clue, but check the yellow connector in the steering column.

With the tie bar thing do you mean the drop links on the ends?
If so probably worth upgrading to the Steve Heath droplinks.

Or if it's the track rod ends to the steering 'TVRCar Parts' sell them at quite reasonable cost and will post.

Thanks for the advice so far...
I've now taken a look at the track rod end, and on the inner end there is play up/down/side-to-side, but not laterally (ie the steering direction). Does this mean that the track is shot as well or is this typical of a worn track rod only?

Do you mean at the steering rack end?
If so it sounds like the rack bushes are worn, a rack rebuild is the best option, it isn't horrendously expensive I think I've seen figures flying around in the £100 - £150 mark.

OK thanks, I just did a search for this on the internet but didn't turn up any suppliers. Is there any info on recommended rack reconditioners to contact?

Adrian Venn - Exactly TVR http://www.exactly-tvr.demon.co.uk/[/url] re-built... for abou £45 as they are the same as Vauxhall Chevette (from which the central part of the steering rack is taken)

Paul if your profile is correct you are in Germany - the rack is based on opel kadett if you can find someone that can rebuild one of those they can do the S rack. Hopefully. Is your car LHD or RHD?

Its original LHD and great fun. But everyone thinks its a Triumph or MG as they've never heard of TVR. I will try both exactly-tvr and look for a local kadett rebuilder. Thanks again to all.
