Bonnet Release Cable
Discussion
After having a quick look, I don't think mine have snapped, it just seems slack. If I move the cable out of the grove in the lever pulley thing so it sits on a wider circumference it works one side but probably too slack to work the otherside also. Is there a way I can take the slack out?
Thanks for the pics.
I'll check the adjusters tonight.
History is, when i bought the car the bonnet was put on but not lined up so didn't go into the catches. Decided to try getting it right one day but thought I'd check the operation of the release cable first (very sensible). It seemed quite stiff (probably dry and unlubed)it then made a noise and went loose (This is when I thought the cable had snapped and is how I left it for the last couple of months.)
When i looked at it at the weekend it seems the cable is intact but loose, I think one of the cathes(driver side) is nice and loose now and does work where as the other side is still stiff and possibly not returning due to either the catch or cable being stiff (possibly the reason for lack of tension in the cable). The noise I heard that I thought was the snap may have been the stiff side suddenly moving back but then not returning hence the loose cable.
My plan is plenty of WD40, taking the passenger side latch out and seeing if I can get the cable running freely again, then hopefully readjust the tension and she should work. The routing of mine is different from the pictures as rather than exiting the pulley at a sharp angle they go staight back and out through the bulkhead into the back of the engine bay before they return back into the footwells.
Incase this fails and I end up putting new cables in, what is the source and parts people have used to replace.
Thanks
M
