Hi,
I have been out and bought a genuine Ford throttle pot. It came with a new plug/cable assembly as shown:

My question is do I need to change the plug? The existing one is the same and has the same colour cables, but I think I read somewhere about gold contacts? Any info appreciated.

I hope that works for you Steve... my genuine Ford TP had the number 86TF-98 989 AD and that equates to an Intermotor 19935 which is fitted to Ford Scorpio/Grannie/Sierra 2.4 and 2.9's as well as MG's, Rovers and some Freelanders... available on ebay for less than a tenner if you buy a plastic Rover/MG throttle with one already fitted... seems like a regular upgrade for the Lotus boys fitted with a 48mm throttle is to upgrade to a 56mm so the old throttles come up fairly regular.

see http://partfinder.smpeurope.com/?p=154 and enter part number 19935...

hope that helps someone although I know I have not answered your question sorry frown

K wink

IIRC the issue between the gold / non gold contact throttle pots was that the outer wires needed swapping over - so it can't be too hard to figure out. Can it?

I have checked and the old plug wire colours are in the same order as the new plug wire colours.

I changed the throttle pot without changing the wiring given it seems the same as the old set up.
The car revs more smoothly and seems smoother in driving if not faster.
I have tested the resistance of the old pot and it goes from 250 Ohms to 2500 Ohms roughly. It is supposed to go from 0 to 5000 Ohms.
The only negative is that the Ford garage charged me £53.91 + vat for the part!!!
