I have tried searching without luck. Has anybody changed the master Cylinder recently? Is the alternative parts list correct in listing a Girling 64676310? I am also changing the slave cylinder to the Landrover MK3 90,110 non-V8 591231. Is the replacement master cylinder a Landrover part too?

I need one too so the part no and supplier would be useful.
Seem to remember the end fitting is imperial 7/16 not metric like the slave so the landy one should do the job, can anyone confirm??

I used a Landrover Mk3 master cylinder the other year. The connector is different from that fitted so I made up a new pipe from 3/16 copper and that has been fine.

I got a new Girling cylinder a couple of years ago based on the ref nos above and the 5/8 bore (from memory) and it went on a treat until I came to fit the pipe .. but the union was too big so I finished up using the new guts in the old cylinder and all was well but an expensive way to do it (the new guts did have a better spring in though - maybe the old one was a bit tired?). I think TVR Car Parts have the correct ones but not sure of the price. The old cylinder wasn't grooved at all but I had replaced the seals several years ago so assumed a new one would be needed - the nylon cap would have been welcome though as the older aluminium ones are a bit of a pain! So I think you either pay the money for the correct one or fiddle with new pipes/unions - choice is yours. If anyone does have a source of the correct ones at sensible money it would be useful - particularly if with nylon caps ... (should be now I think unless v old stock)

Jed,

is there a reason why you can't use the large bore pipe with the Mk3 master cylinder, I'm happy to cut the end off and reflare but would prefer to use the large bore pipe!

Mike,

the Master cylinder end fitting is indeed a 7/16 unf. Both unions on mine now fit both cylinders.

I've ordered new unions and will be getting a braided flexi pipe made up, if the guys at a local Pirtek factory don't want too much to make it for me!

I'll keep you posted on the cost when it's done.

I ordered a new landrover series 3 clutch master cylinder and went to put it on today. Unfortunately the thread on the connector socket attached to the pedal box is different to the thread on the new push rod. Where did I go wrong? Is there an easy get out? I recon easiest way out is to take the pedal box out and make a new connector or tap the old one out. If its the wrong master cylinder it might be as easy to get the right one if anyone knows the correct ref. no. It was only about £8 so no great loss they might take it back.

I'm not 100% sure which part you are refering to but if you mean the pushrod where it attaches to the clutch pedal just use the pushrod of the old master cylinder, just a circlip holding it in.

The 1/4" pipe is old plus the only lengths at the motor factor were approx £20. Also the diameter of the fluid exit hole in the master cylinder was the same diameter as the 3/16" bore pipe so I knew the pipe wouldn't be a restriction.
