I am having my roof re-covered and should have the panels back soon.
Where can I get roof bags? I read somewhere that IKEA do bags the correct size??!?? Would prefer the right ones but any protection is better than none.

Does anyone have original roof bags that could be borrowed as a pattern?

Ive got some which I bought recently 2nd hand which I think are original and could be used for templates. They dont cover the whole panel though which I thought a bit odd, just one side and each end. They do appear to match the spare wheel cover though so seem right.

Hi Jim
Thats how the bags were designed but a question are your bags different sizes for the different sized panels? Both my original bags are the same size so strictly speaking one is too big.

I have the same original covers, and I was wondering the same thing - they were apparently supplied in two sizes but mine are both the same, so one is too big.

The covers that came with mine only fitted the smaller panel. If I still had them we could have done a swap.

The covers were PVC, but the underside was open with elasticated bands across.
I junked them and replaced with pieces of old blanket, sewn up the sides to create a soft bag.

Get a thick blanket from a charity shop, fold it around the panel and mark up where you need to sew it to make your own. I borrowed a sewing machine and did 2 from a single blanket in about 10 minutes. They're lovely and soft, match the car and provide all the roof-related protection I need.

I got the plans for making some roof bags from a guy over on the TVRCC website back in 2006.

This is a picture of his bags not mine. I made mine a bit more basic, i.e - no fancy pleated edges, folded over edges.

Yes one is bigger than the other but they dont look anything like as nice as Russ's pics! Happy to measure them or send them someplace if it will help?

AHA !!!

I seem to have the less useful alternative of two SMALL roof bags!

Never quite worked them out - both exactly the same size and a tight fit on the smaller of the two roof panels. I can't be bothered with them them anyway, a bath-towel is so much easier...

So if anyone wants a small roof bag, find me at SCH and pick one up!
