Steering column bush
Discussion
Finally got round to fitting the new bush and bearing kit today. Had it since january! Simple job didn't need to take the roadwheel off either.
1. Bonnet up
2. battery earth off,
3. WD40 on all threaded bits
4. Inside the car column shroud off- 3X screws hidden under the leather
5. 2X 17mm bolts holding column loosened off
6. 10mm clamp bolt above UJ on shaft under bonnet loosened off
7. Inside car column bolts withdrawn, making note of spacers and washers
8. blanket on seat and steering assembly pulled back through the bush and left against footwell carpet
9. With the help of an assistant 'SWMBO' holding the bolts on the inside the nuts and washers can be removed on the engine side
10.Old bearing housing and bush removed and replaced 'SWMBO has to come out of the house again!'
11.Column put back through a bit at a time while the clamp is worked on to it.
12.Then the column bolts can be put back i used new spring washers.
13.Clamp bolt tightened up
14.Column shroud re fitted
15.Battery back on, watch out for the alarm!
Finally - test drove it and found quite a difference. There was about 2mm play in the bush which didn't seem much but was certainly worth the effort of replacing.
Whole job was done within 2 hours
