Anyone know where the electric window motors come from ? My drivers side has been getting slower and slower and now wont rise unless it gets a little helping hand - the glass seems to be trying to come up at an angle which results in it jamming in the guides, I've taken the door card off and tried to adjust the mechanism but to no avail so thought I'd try replacing the whole unit.
Secondly, the boot release solenoid has packed up (see earlier thread re S3 boot release) Anyone know who supplied these as I can't find any makers marks on the old unit - just a number 9007. All help gratefully received...

My window motors are from VW, which is quite unusual. It does seem that there is a variety of different motors out there....:-(
I would look to see who the manufacturer was and trace a replacement that way.
One thing I will say though is that my windows got like this at this time last year (cold, wet and full of crud) I took the whole lot completely apart and thoroughly cleaned the runners and motors etc..plus all connections. It solved the problems !!

I would propose that you spray the runners with silicone spray. Don't hesitate to put so much that they get completely soaked. (The runners are covered with loop, talking VELCRO, that means they have some capacity to store adequate fluids) If you see improvement , leave them over night and respray them once. If not - don't know.

MacWalsh, I can't offer any advice on the window snag, but I did have a look at the remote boot release on my S3C for you. Three words were on it,"SPAL Correggio Italy".
If that doesn't lead you anywhere, I'm sure an alarm fitting centre may be able to help/point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the replies guys - Phoned Penninsular this morning and they have hopefully sorted me out a new solenoid for a shade under 19 quid inc VAT and delivery - result. As to the window - looks like a stripdown/clean up of the mechanism is on the cards.
Johno - just how involved was the job - I dont want to dismantle everything only to find that I can't re-assemble / get the right clearances etc etc etc.

Re. Electric window motor running slowly.
I had this problem on my S2 recently and in the end it packed up entirely. The motor on mine is cliped into the worm drive with plastic clips. A quick yank on the motor unclips it easilly. The fault on mine turned out to be the connector to the motor itself. I cut the connector off and crimped new spade terminals on the ends of the wire and plugged this into the motor where the old wire connector used to be. I didn't bother refitting the little yellow capacitor and it works as good as new now. My motor was made in Spain which probably sums it up! (I work for a Spanish company!)
