Out of curiosity I would love to know how unusual/rare my walnut dash is.

If you have a curved dash S car could you tell me if it has the painted 'walnut' finish. I think I was told there were only about 40 cars produced with that finish

What's the standard wood on the S3 wooden dashboard and door strips? I assumed that was walnut, but not sure.

Aye, I am one of the lucky 40. I think mine's a bit faded but still looks great from a few feet away.

Hi Neil

Any chance of a pic? I'll post mine once the re-furbed dash is installed

Its in need of a refurb though, next winters job. I would be interested in other peoples experiences.

Hi Ken
Looks OK BUT the s1/2 'walnut' dash is actually painted fibreglass. While I'm told that its possible to use real veneer it would be extremely difficult because of the steep and compound curves, can you imagine bending it into the switch recesses for example. It would need a press or vacuum former of some type and would be a huge expense.

It has taken over a year to locate someone to do the job at a reasonable price, £300 plus vat for dash and door strips having been quoted up to £1200 plus vat. But the proof of the pudding will be the end result. The dash will be fitted before SCH09 and on view but here is a taster
