Has anybody removed the large plug from the bottom of the tank where the take off pipe is located. I think there could be some sort of filter at the back of it and I want to check it for crud.
Not sure if they are all the same but mine is a V8s

Any idea how the plug comes out, and does it go back easy.

My tank is off the car and it was easy to remove the cover plate. Screwdriver and a small hammer is needed to turn the circular plate to release the small lugs holding it in. You should change the rubber seal before replacing. I was told that the Landrover seals were slightly thicker and the ones to use. I sent off for some and have a spare. If you email me with your address I will send you one. Good luck.

Thanks for all the help and advice in particular from a telephone convesation with Elfit.

Tonight I intend to remove the pump and the bung to ascertain the level if any of crud in there. If I find a lot then the tank will be coming off. Whats annoying about all this is I had all intentions of tank removal over the winter but never got to it.

You're welcome Pete ~ glad to be of help.

The Landy part numbers are ARA 1501 and ARA 1502. One is the seal and one the locking ring. Only cost a couple of quid in total. Note that these also fit the sender unit.

Cheers

Well, I dropped the petrol out of the tank and remove the bottom bung, it was spotless in there, no rust or crud, the internal filter was clear and clean so at least that rules out that area of investigation.

Oh well, just have to get new seals tomorrow and whilst its apart I will change the pipe from the tank to the pump.

Yep, It was changed last year, I have removed ot tonight and plan on replacing it, but to be honest the tank and fuel was clean with no bits so I doubt it was crudded up.

Have you also checked the thimble filter in the fuel pump intake?

Mine hasn't either - must be a different pump on the V8.
