Well I'm wondering about how people store the roof panels in the boot. I have tried everywhich way to maximise boot space for luggage when I go away at weekends with SWMBO.

So I was wondering if I've missed some tricks - so would love to know how you get yours in..........biggrin

I've only ever managed to get them in one way - and that tends to be after a bit of swearing and 2 or 3 attempts.
I put my panels in facing each other - so the inside of the roof panels face each other in the boot - so the roof catches don't damage the outside of the roof. I don't have any roof bags.
There's bugger all room once they are in there - all part of the challenge of S ownership I think!

I think it depends on spare wheel and type of strut you have , as you know i don't carry a spare yet smile
But i put larger one in first lugs up and smaller one on top curve up with a fleece blanket between for protection . I do have the bags but think they are too tricky to use . I keep the panels over to the left but not so far as to catch strut when shutting .

I put the larger panel in first with the "inside" resting on the petrol tank pushed as far to the right as possible, curved bit on right hand side (allows it to curve round tank). Put it at an angle with the top tilting to the front of the car. If needing to get a lot of stuff in (e.g. camping at S club!) pack smaller items/bags on the floor and on top of the fuel tank behind this panel.

Then lay the smaller panel on top, "inside" resting on top of other panel curved edge on left or on top so it fits flush against the other panel. Pack other stuff over / around this, smaller at bottom with room for a larger holdall on top.

I do have roof bags, but on my previous S I just put a towel in between the panels to protect them from the catches.

Give me a shout at S Club and it'll be easiest to show you wink

Having just seen Dale's comments, I usually carry the spare wheel and I do not have a bootlid strut smile

Its a lot easier without the spare (I dont carry one...)

I put the larger panel in first, ensuring it goes as far into the well as possible before angling forward and under the edge of the boot opening. then the smaller panel... and both in bags but still with a travel blanket or towel between them as they are both in with Exterior surfaces facing out of the boot so you need to ensure the outer panels catch doesnt break or damage the other panel.

I still reckon it would be a good event at SCH09...

roof off and stowed, boot lid shut, re-open and roof back on...

sensible prize would be replacement catches as the winner will probably need them hehe

K wink

Something else I've just remembered is that I always drape a towel over the back of the car so as not to scratch the top edge of the bodywork when taking things in / out of the boot. Please don't ask me how I know this is a good idea furious

The best way I've found is to never take the roof off!!! at Chatsworth on Sunday it was only the second time I have ever had it off (oo'er) in the 18 months I have owned the car. Although when I had my Westfield I always had it down because it was so bloody noisy with the roof up.
cheers.....Tony..

Good tip Ian.
Now how did you manage to get scratches on my OLD boot!! LOL

For those of you looking for 'CHEAP' protection for the roof panels, it's been said before, IKEA sell zip up bags which just fit the larger of the two, I think they were a fiver each. Perfect and budget price for the job. Have you still got them Wiz?

Still using them Paul.
The scratches are very fine sure they have been there all along.

Caught Marcia out the other evening - went out to a meet. On the way there she suggests putting the roof up for the return journey. Simple answer -

No because i left it in the garage hehe
