Saw a thread a while back showing a modified J plate which had pics. Have searched and can't find it.

The lower spring on my linkage doesn't seem to be connected and a pic of how it should would be helpfull.

Cheers

Thanks Ian thumbup

Very shiny pic there. It does show the bottom spring which is what i need. I have a long spring above this as well.

Hi Norman,
It took a while - easier when dismantled. Very fiddly and hard on fingers - degrease/clean first, then combination of wet'n'dry, wire brush, fine grinding paste then finish with fine wire wool/solvol and buffer, been busy with engine bay project since late Nov, maybe went a bit obsessive compulsive in places. All done now, once wheels come back will be on the road - can't wait. bounce

I attempted to dismantle the old throttle body from the fire damaged car. Easy to remove the throttle pot, the 'J' plate but found the screws retaining the butterfly's very tight and founf a twist of thread pulled off the bolts when i forced they out. The main difficulty was in attempting to remove the butterfly spindle, just couldnt see what was retaining it , tried tapping from the pot end, no good, tried hammering it hard, (dont forget it was fire damaged) and still I couldnt get it to shift. What on earth was I missing.

Any guidance would be well recieved

Norman

ETA Got it, i had assumed the shaft went trough the butterflies, now i see the butterflies go through a slot in the shaft. Removed butterflies and the shaft was easy to remove

Just found the pic i was after, came up on the search whilst looking for mirrors?

This is exactly the same spring arrangement as mine, even the bottom spring is in the same position.

looks like the long leg of the spring has snapped off, if so it looks a good mod.
Sorry Wiz for hijacking the thread a bit.getmecoat

Hi Alan,

The picture you found is from my S3. I think it was posted in connection with J/straight throttle plates. It worked well, but I think it was replaced in the course of other throttle mods, not least of which was fitting a pedal stop following a cable failure! The lower spring in the photo was broken, but a quick twist with pliers fixed it...

Graham

What is the additional (horizontal) spring from? The plastic bushes at the top and bottom of the spindle of the rotating bit are a bit worn on my S and as I can't get any (discontinued) I could do with making the return spring a bit more positive - but not so much that its a pain to hold down. Any ideas folks?
