I don't know alot about cars, but have fallen in love with the idea of getting a tvr s3 and dying to get one. I was just hoping if anyone could give a little advice on the good and bad points of the car. What things can go wrong with it, reliability, etc..

Find one with a good chassis and go for it. You won't regret it, even when things seem bad, they're good.

Welcome to the forum wavey

Where in the country are you? There's bound to be a helpful S owner nearby wink

Don't just limit yourself to looking for an S3 - the S2's have the same engine / performance etc and will give you more potential cars to look at.

Cheers,

yes

I ended up with an S3 (and I do slightly prefer the 2.9) but the next closest car I saw was a mechanically superb S1 which drove better than any of the other S3s I saw and in some respects better than the one I eventually bought. Also, the earlier cars do seem to be disproportionately cheaper for what is a very similar design.

Other than that it's worth repeating the comment about getting a good chassis. Make sure you look at and drive plenty as they vary hugely and not always to the current owner's description!

Other than that: Get one. For day-to-day costs they're pretty cheap to run, the performance is more than addequate, the handling is superb when correctly set up and the noise is truly spectacular. smile

check the links above in the sticky section for the owners websites and advice on what to look for or avoid. In particular Colin's (aka Pies) site www.tvrsseries.com , and of course I have to advertise my own www.gbsportscar.com

But overall - chassis chassis and if I forgot to mention chassis - see my "little house of horrors" page for what you can find and I thought I'd done a good check, it was just well disguised.

If your not in a hurry get yourself to the S club meet in June, mentioned on the forum. Plenty of cars to look at and people to talk to about them.

....and by chassis we also include the trailing arms - thats the big steel suspension arm at the back.
Not the end of the world but quite expensive to replace unless you can do a lot of the work yourself.
