When I purchased the S2 last month I forgot to ask the owner how to remove the roof panels, I have released the catches by the sun visors but am not sure what to do next, I was expecting them to just lift out! as I can be heavy handed with things I thought I had better ask on here the correct way to remove the panels.
Thanks
Paul

at the back window ,pull the 2 bars and the roof will go back a bit to remove top ,best have doors open a bit when taking back down and remember to lift velcro at sides

there are four tags on each panel which locate in slots in the front screen frame and the rear hood frame/hoop...

you need to undo the rear section overlocking arms and you will see that the rear section will hinge down and away from the roof panels. if you just move the rear section back slightly you will expose the tags and you will see when these can be lifted away... The drivers side should be done first as it overlaps the passenger side.

your next Krypton Factor task will be to store the panels in the boot along with the spare and whatever else you have in there... I gave up carrying a spare so I have more room now

Now I remember you lot from the NW watching me critically when refitting mine on the way to SCH08, but I still find its the best way, so, unless anyone comes up with a better plan/method...

with doors closed and windows fully up, put the passenger side panel in place.
then add the drivers side panel, so both panels are resting on the window glass and are located in their front tag-slots.
Now lift the rear section until it meets the rear of the panels and lift the panels just enough for the rear section to slide below the panels and you should be able to locate the rear tags in the slots
now open the drivers door and push the overlocking stays to lock the panels in place and do up the front clips...

job done thumbup usually to applause of anyone watching your antics hehehehehehe

Never have the windows up is what I've heard. An S1 owner in the local club said he closed the rear roof up with the drivers window up and the glass shatered. eek

Windows down or doors open - essential

Well, I like to be different hehe

I agree with windows or doors open to replace the roof. However, I fit the roof panels to the hood first, then holding the passenger one (as the driver side rests on it) I raise the whole thing to meet the locating thingys at the front of the car. It seems easier than the other way if on your own.

Also, it can be a good idea to roll a towel and place it behind the perspex panel when taking the roof down to avoid stressing it.

i fit to hood 1st as well, hoping with gravity they stay in place when raised, i thought if i fitted to screen 1st (gravity and all that) the panels may fall out, or the weight of 2 panels maybe a bit stressful to the screen area. not that i drive it, but everyday the roof comes off for
ventilation, and ease of working on the car

i keep forgetting to undo the velcro as well.
will glue them back in place, when i remember to undo them before opening
the roof, or i'd be glueing eveyday hehe

I use the same system as Dave_M ignoring the velcro which has long departed the car - dosent seem to have an effect except a little extra ventilation with the hood up (twice in the last year)

But this seems a good modification

Extra flap on the inside to fasten to the velcro

I remain unconvinced by the alternatives and will continue to rest the panels on the closed windows first... I cant see why they would shatter unless something is badly aligned or forced (or both) and putting in rear section first seems like it would put some strain on the rear tags (and slots)...

so, if it rains while at SCH09 we could have a competition... maybe a good "race" to have on the day... a kind of Knockout competition with a winner of the quickest roof up 2009 award ??? hehehehehehe
