The other thing I've heard of happening like this is fuel vapourisation - I don't understand the exact science of it but I think its usually a hot weather issue - though it might be worth checking if there's anything silly under the bonnet like a fuel pipe routed close to the exhaust or something.
I think its when the fuel lines get too hot and the fuel in them turns to vapour, but someone more knowledgeable will enlighten us I'm sure.
The coil as mentioned sounds a better bet.

In addition to above advice.
Two things work in conjunction for starting.
Thermotime switch (ops the extra injector)and the Aux air device which as it's name suggests regulates air flow.
The AAD would be worth a look and cleaning if it is a bit sluggish and not moving properly (open when cold, closes as engine heats up.)
