Sad News for Geralds friend

Bad news I’m afraid the S is beyond economic repair. Bonnet alone £1.2 to £1.4k. Bulkhead is actually burnt through




so it would have to be body off and a mould created from an undamaged body tub £3k plus, windscreen and paint. A full rewire, signs of serious overheating behind the dash, nothing to do with the fire, near side front upper wishbone and top chassis tube suspect, N/S front suspension unit needs replacing and the disk needs to be checked for true running. All engine ancillaries need replacing plus servo, master cylinders.

Whats good:

I've had the radiator reconditioned (going on Ebay today), two front flashers one with a chip which will be repaired good ish hood, complete stainless steel exhaust system, complete dashboard, engine (no ancillaries)

gearbox. Lots of other bits eg steering wheel, electric aerial, hood and spare wheel bags. As I pull bits off I will check clean and if OK some will go an ebay. I will be keeping some bits back but will clear out lots of what I have in the garage at present including completed pass side electric winder mechanism and motor ditto for drivers side but no motor, new wipers and reconned arms.

Sad news indeed to see another S hit the dust. Fair play attempting to resurrect her, especially so far gone. What about combining one with a shot chassis but a good body? They do come up on ebay - there was one recently which went for under 1k in the end..... Klicky

Id be interested in the hood bags if they're on offer though!

Are the roof panel covers in good nick/on offer? Mine just need a recovering, but if I found replacements at a good price who knows.

Body swap would be the only economical way assuming the chassis is good etc

Sorry to hear the bad news Norman, it did look like a massive challenge.

Still looks like a worthwhile project to me for what I would have in mind for it - a track orientated car with a different engine, new, brakes etc. Just a shame you're so far from Norfolk.

Do know what the insurance status is? I'd have thought CAT B but I guess it can't be.
