If you own E365CBA a TVR S1 or L472ERU a Griffith 500 I'd love to know whether the cars are still alive.

Last saw the S1 in the car park at Kingston Lacy near Wimborne in Dorset. I part ex this for the Griff at Nigel Mansell's garage in Pimperne.

The other does not appear on the DVLA site (that index, the car may exist with another index smile).

That's interesting stuff. Never thought to use the DVLA website to find out. Hope the S makes it back on the road as for the Grif well sad if it no longer exists. Thanks for that.

What do you mean about another index I thought the DVLA was the only database of reg plates ?

Yes, that's right Chris.

I'm now working on a fully accurate hologram of each TVR model ready for S Club...

OK, maybe that's stretching things a little far hehe

That's great news always good to hear that the old girl is still around. I bought her from Oxford Sports Car Ltd in 95 and part ex her for a Griff 500 in 1998. Right from the outset I had problems galore the previous owner had not looked after her well. I got through 3 exhausts before I fitted new adjustable suspension Spax as I recall, a clutch, reconditioned the gearbox, and replaced the manifolds which were very difficult to source. For all of this the engine came out 3 times but I have to say I enjoyed every minute of owning it and learned a hell of alot about the mechanics. The sound that car made was excellent and I have to say slightly better noise then the smoother 2.9 engine I have in the S2. Still got the original steering wheel for it and one of the exhausts.

I suspect you won't want to hear this but I'll tell you the horror story. My last blast in the car was down the road by Badbury Rings. I was getting quite a bad vibration from the front wheel but as this was the day I was picking up the Grif I didn't really pay it much attention. A few months later I heard that on the following day after dropping it off the streeing column snapped whilst they were parking it in the garage car park. Me thinks I got rid of the car on the right day. I think what had happened was the bolt holding the two sections of the column had sheared and quite possible the vibrations that I had felt was the beginning of it. So a part of me was really glad I sold it that day who knows what would have happened had I kept it. So to all the S owners out there pay regular attention to the steering column and check that bolt.

Here's a piccie of her outside the Haynes Motor Museum. This trip was arranged by the TVR Car Club and was probably somewhere during 95 or 96.

How long have you had the car for ?

picking her up next week.
the previous owner has half completed the restoration, so the chassis is all sorted along with the suspension, so its at a rolling chassis stage with the engine in and the body dropped on top.
Just need to rebuild it from here on in. I think he has owned the car for while, would guess at least 6 years. Its been off the road since early 06. The interior still looks nice and I think the paint work is good too (with a couple of star crazes)

If I get it to any of the meets over summer you can have a drive!
And I'll check the steering column!

Thanks for the offer I'm sure we arrange a meet at some point I'm also looking to attend the SCH'09 event
I own an S2 now and that S1 gave me the confidence to buy this one. One thing I'm not doing though is using it as an everyday car I used the S1 everyday for 18 months before.

Looks like she's getting the treatment she deserves. From what I can remember the chasis was in a very poor state when I had her but I simply couldn't afford the time or cost to put her right. Still looks like you'll have a great car once it's put back together. Has it still got the original engine ?

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on ?

unsure about the engine but would assume its the original one. It's had a light refurb.
How do the s1 sound compare to the later chims and griffs? I havn't had the pleasure yet!

Well when I had it, it sounded glorious. There was a hell of alot of popping and banging on the overrun. I have a video of some in car footage taken when I took it down to Le Mans 1996 I think. I'll post it up on You Tube so you can see assuming I can work out how to do it. If it's still got the exhaust I bought (doubtful if it's be grounded alot) for it then it was a sports exhaust which was slightly louder than the original.

Compared to the V8 Grif well it's all about taste personally I liked them both but the S1 was definetly louder at lower revs probably louder at high revs too.

Hey you're going to love it. Is this your first TVR ?

It has got a stainless exhaust (not headers) now (or will have when its put back on).
This will be my first tvr, I had an alfa spider old style for while which was lovely, a midget that was nice old british but not my cup of t.
I have never owned anything over 4 cyclinders hence my slight obsession for a bit of noise!
I'm hoping it will be fun to drive, have enough power to make it fun and enough things I can play with to improve it over time.

The Griffith is still around as well, by the way.

Now registered on L500 TNY.

Been in a bit of a fight though it would seem, it's CAT D registered.

in that case any chance of locating my old BMW 325i if I gave the reg? I've been trying to locate it for ages and believe its on a private reg.

Anyhow I found my old S2 by accident! We walked out of a place a few years back and there across the road was my old red s2? She looked very good to, We'd taken it all over Europe and then sold it in order to buy our house at the time, bought and sold it through TVR in Barnet, car also had its problems (oil pressure/pump/cracks in the gell coat etc) and I still have a few bits of paperwork here I believe. I loved that car.
