I've seen various references to this problem, but can anyone advise me what the cure is.

I had this problem recently, assuming yours is the 999.9 issue. I tried all the suggestions, such as tapping the glass and dash, leaving it for a week or so and in the end it was rebuilt by Speedy Cables.

it is the 999.9 gremlin which righted itself the first time but has now occurred again - so I guess I'd better get it fixed. Thanks for the info.

Not sure of the cost as it was paid for by David geralds under their warranty. The car was with them for a couple of weeks whilst I was away to have a few bits and peices sorted out.

Doug at DG said that the speedo was the last thing to come back so I guess maybe 10 day turnaround.

Give speedy cables a call, or maybe someone else can provide costs - I think a few people have had the same thing done.

At long last after my previous enquiries I have released my speedo from the dash but it is still attached by its cable which is sealed into the unit.What do I do now?

Bit radical this, I had the same 999 problem on my S2, tried the usual stuff without luck, took it to 3 garages with no joy sourcing a replacement. My local garage finally suggested "whacking" it with a hammer as a last resort.

Sounded a bit harsh but I needed it fixed so I pulled it from the dash, wrapped it in a towel and gave it a few firm taps on the side and back of the unit with a claw hammer...sorted it and no problems ever since.

Might be worth a go before sending off for repair.
