On the cars were it was fitted as standard, it was a standard option. On the cars that didn't have it fitted as a standard it was an option unless it was fitted by a dealer afterwards except where the factory fitted it as a favour to the dealer in which case it was a standard option which the customer could optionally specify but only if it was not a standrad option in the first place.

In summary, if your car has it, it was a standard. If not, it was an option. The bible says standard but nothing is quite as simple as that in reality.

My S3 has a Clifford alarm system linked to the central locking. When I bought the car last Easter, it worked after a fashion but not properly. I now have it all working thanks to the efforts of a Clifford alarm dealer and myself.

Can I offer any help? What is the problem? The first openings of this thread do not really specify the help you are seeking?

Your comments made me think about my own car. My S1 has central locking which used to work with the alarm. As the Alarm was dubious I had an immobiliser fitted and just switched the alarm off and have not tried to use it since. Is it possible to retain the use of the central locking without engaging the alarm system. Not sure if mine is a clifford or not....

I still have the remote key fobs - any thoughts?

Cheers

I cannot offer any usefull comments upon your current setup. In theory you should be able to operate the central locking without the immbiliser, but I think you will need the expertise of an alarm engineer to set it up. I would go back and talk with the guy who did the last mofifications.

Frankly it might very well be cheaper to install a new alarm / immobiliser that links with the existing central locking motors.

But how do you konw if the car had it fitted as standard? It could have been fitted as a standard option by the dealer! What if the dealer asked for an option and the factory fitted as standard??

I've confused myself now!

I guess the factory could provide details on the original build, however does it matter if it was factory or dealer fit. My S3C had central locking and a v naff alarm which I removed and had replaced with a Thatcham immobiliser. The remote locking function dissapeared with the alarm fob but the central locking remained with the key. The V8S which is newer doesn't have central locking.

JSG.

You used to be able to get a relay that plugged in instead of the existing central locking one, this had a remote unit so would give you remote central locking without a alarm, they didn’t cost to much either, you could try someone like Ripspeed or similar.

Thanks for the comments chaps - I think I'll investigate further. Seems a shame to have all those solenoids and wires and not use them.
