Having just replaced the brake fluid reservoir cap due to the old one's terminals corroding away I find I have 3 terminals on the new cap and two wires on the car's wiring loom to connect. Can anyone tell me which terminals the wires go to as the cap and wires have been seperated on mine for some time (the old cap also had 3 terminals at some point in the distant past!!!!

Thanks in advance as I'm sure someone will look for me.

BTW my setup is the Ford setup not the Saab one

Just been and checked my car (S3C) and the two wires go to the two terminals on the right (ie nearest the offside)although to be honest I'm not even sure it works anyway, hope this helps.
Cheers.....Tony..

It's easy enough to confirm - just connect the two wires to whichever two terminals go open circuit when the sensor is immersed, and closed circuit when it isn't.

I tried this with a DVM across the various terminals, but unfortunately there is no change although you can hear the float move i.e. from left to right when looking at the terminals T1/2 short circuit, T1/3 Open Circuit, T2/3 Open circuit irrespective of float position. I therefore assume it is an induction based circuit that requires a voltage across it to work.

Mark,

The two outside terminals worked on my old S3. See

for pic and details.

My V8S uses the 2 terminals to the offside with the terminals facing the driver.

Hi Mark,
You have your answer here...

Using your terminology: T1 and T2 are linked. The reservoir level switch is between T1/T2 and T3. On my Fiesta T1 is power in, T3 is earth and T2 is power supply to the handbrake warning switch. On the TVR you can connect either T1 and T3 or T2 and T3. Don't know about the 'induction based' theory, but I rather suspect that your float switch simply isn't working...

Good luck,
Graham

Why don't you chop up your old cap and have a look inside?

Ragtop above is correct and the float switch on my "new" (second hand) cap had rusted as you can see from the photos below. A bit of emery cloth son sorted and it all now works you can (as Ragtop says) connect the cables either way round across terminals T1 to T2 or T1 to T3 where T1 is the offside termoinal when viewed from above with the plug towards the driver seat.

Pics below and all works ok now.

Thanks to all
