Roof panel seals

Hi,

For the first time I drove my S in torrential rain on Saturday. I was only in the car for 5 minutes but by that time I had a steady stream of water (like a tap on medium speed ) leaking in where the roof panels seal to the rear part of the hood. Fortunately I was driving it back to my garage. I'm water-proofing the hood but my main suspect is the seals around the targa panels which are in a very depressed state. Where can I get replacement seals? I've checked car builder solutions but their seals are 'D' shaped and the ones on the panels are more triangular.

Ralph, I bought mine from woolies. There is a thread that said the one I bought was wrong, but it works well and seals perfectly. If you want I'll email you the part number for them when I get home tomorrow. Let me know if you want it

Woolies part number 266A is what I used 2m is plenty for the rear "roof hoop"

Not sure if this is relevant as I think your problem is not the roof hoop but I got some samples from Woolies earlier this year for the roof hoop seal and neither of the ones they sent were as per the original one - TVR Car Parts do the original one and it isn't too expensive at £6 per metre + VAT & carriage (total £15.63) so choice is yours; the Woolies route is a bit cheaper but I took the view that the extra £5/6 was worth it to maintain the originality and I thought the fit was a bit better. Can't help re the other seals though.

That's why I referred above to the thread from earlier in the year but I found the one from woolies slightly larger than the original (the round bit that it) - which makes it a bit more difficult to get the roof section lugs in to the rear slots (not hard you just need to be careful and press down the back edge as you "click" the struts in place) and my car has sealed much better since going for this one. It also slows the windows down slightly but they were never fast anyway.

I bought from woolies purely because I was buying other stuff as well and they do the job.

new rubbers will make the panels a bit tighter to locate.

I took a sample with me to Edgware Motors to get correct section - but he's local to me so not a problem.

If its the seals I am thinking of then I got mine off the door of a transit van. Exactly the same bit of rubber. Cleaned it up stuck it on and now fits like a glove. Been out in torrential rain and no probs. Its amazing how snug the fit is when the seals are new.

Hi Mark - I'm glad your windows are OK with the Woolies seal - that was my concern as my windows are very slow anyway (despite silicon spray on the runners - may need to have a look at the connector in the door - can I get to do it by taking out the speaker??). The Woolies sample I had is a round thing set on one point of rubber whereas the original has the round rubber seal bit set as a loop which is fixed at either side of the seal width - if you see what I mean - I thought the seal being fixed on effectively both sides rather than one point would enable it to squash better for the window movement which is up and backwards.

There are four different seals relating to the roof arrangement.

"Targa" seal (on the forward lip of the rear screen targa section):
Woolies 266-BLK - "Black PVC snappon with sponge bead 16mm (5/8"). Herringbone patterned PVC carrier. Widely used door seal."

Thanks Roy C. I would be very interested to know if anyone has part no's for the seal between the two targa panels - this is one of the perished sealed on my S.

Off topic: how do I access the FAQs when things get moved there?

Guys, I just thought I'd resurrect this thread because I'm going to redo my roof for the winter. I'm going to replace all the red bits and maybe the targa hoop and windscreen rubber but I especially need to do the blue bits between the two target panels - this is where I get the core leakage. Anyone know what part this is at all?

Also, what's the best glue to affix this stuff with? Just take off the old stuff, pick off the glue with a knife, then apply?
