I have run out of all swear words I can think of lol. On drive today came off duel carriage way & at traffic lights noticed car had cut out, would not restart. Called AA out (thank dog I resently rejoined) noticed fuel pump was not buzzing when I switched ignition on, car did fire up again just about ticked over but cut out.
AA guy had look & thought there was no power getting to pump, had to get flatbacked home.
I think the fuel pump is new but not 100% sure, is there a relay in system ? any ideas peeps ???

Is there any other electric equipment not working, like heater fan or indicators? The yellow connector block on the ignition switch often fails, resulting in no or little voltage on all these items, including the fuel pump relay. If the yellow connector is OK, move on to the fuel pump relay, and check the connections on the fuel pump itself, as these can corrode. There is an electric diagram on tvrsseries.com, this may help you. Also do a search on 'fuel pump' on this forum, there's lots of information on how to test fuel pump and relay.

In the passenger footwell with the fuse box and the ECU. It will be tucked up behind the carpet and be a right snakes wedding unless someone has sorted it in the past(it'll be a first if its tidy though!!!)Your handbook will tell you which relay you are looking at - if you haven't got one then search these threads as Barkychoc (I think or maybe KeTVRin) has posted photos of the relevent pages on here before

will get a volt tester at work & bring home tomoro. Already thought about checking for muck in lines. My car car basically just come back on road since major rebuild so I expect all to be ok (but one can never just assume)BTW: If the new pump turns out to be seized, check for debris in the fuel line between tank and pump.

Got volt meter & placed it on pump connections, got daughter to switch ignition on, I got 12.4v for about 2 seconds which is time it takes for solenoid to operate in-out, I guess this is time it takes for pump to prime system prior to starting, there after ECU controls pump etc ? having proved voltage to pump & its not buzzing in, I am sure pump is U/S.

I wouldn't try to measure any voltages while you do this you might make a spark
I don`t think it is even turning, just feel a kick when power is switched on, I had outlet pipe off last night as thought maybe system is blocked & at pressure thus pump not kicking in. I drain a touch petrol off but but made on difference. I think pump is siezed (it had been off car & not used for a good 1.5yrs while car was being rebuilt) it was quite noisey when priming.I wouldn't try to measure any voltages while you do this you might make a spark

Looks like a new fuel pump is needed. After doing volt age test I decided to remove pump, after doing so I fastened jump leads to battery then touched pump connections, jump just kicked as it was doing prior to removing, had couple more goes & all it could muster was a couple of slow turns. I would expect if it was ok to whirl round at some speed ?

This sounds to me like a dead pump: It should whirl round at hyperspeed when pumping just air. The kick you describe could point to something solid blocked in the pump mechanism, like rust flakes from the fuel tank.
I will cut pump open when i get chance & inspect it! I thought of possible muck causing failure (this is main cause of pumps that fail) My car has resently been rebuilt & am told fuel tank was professionally cleaned.I had some serious problems with rust in the system.
This is what came out of the inline filter.
Note that on the pump inlet there should be a small thimble shaped gauze (top right in photo).
This should stop the worst of the rubbish getting in to the pump.
It may be worth checking that this is free of crud.
Despite all of this my pump is still ok ~ maybe I was lucky

cheers for pic, there is no thimble type filter on inlet side of my pump ? Where does one get one of these ? I should have new pump tomorow but thinking don`t want to fit with out filter in inlet side. My tank filter was remove & tank modifide.
