In order to inspect the chassis on a car Im looking at tomorrow wheres the best place to position a trolley jack, I would normally go with suspension mount but I would guess anywhere on the main chassis rails is ok?

Mike unless your jack is very low take a couple of pieces of wood say 12" long by 4"x2" to drive car onto to get jack under and when checking outriggers etc try as much as possibel to check the tops where the body rests do a couple of searches on 'outrigger' and 'trailing arms' to see horror pictures which might help tell you where to look.

Definatly use the main chassis rails not outriggers as jacking points

Check top of the outrigger tubes - the bit you can't see - usually near the corner plate where the tubes join (nearside usually worse). Also the rear corner seatbelt anchor. Trailing arms too (o/s usually rots first).
