Having got myself some sensible sized wheels that I can get my prefered track tyre for I've discovered that the right rear doesn't fit, the tyre rubs on the trailing arm, there's loads of room on the left rear though.

After much head scratching and measuring we've found the OS trailing arm is rather different to the NS one (21mm different redface). A quick dig through the reciepts that came with the car show it was replaced jan 2007, aparently with the wrong one.

Does anyone have or know where I could get the correct trailing arm for my v8?

I've got one, brand new with the bush fitted.
I bought it off a guy who had bought it in error for his S3, so it was fitted to the car for about an hour I think.

I thought I was going to need it for my refurb but it turned out my trailing arms were in great condition, it was the bush that was shot.

It has a brand new trailing arm bush fitted to it too (they aren't cheap either).
£100 plus whatever carriage we can arrange at cost its yours, plus you'll be able to sell yours once its off as it sounds like its for an S3......

Purely as a matter of interest here but the above piccy looks very much the same as the ones that are on my S3C (they are the original ones) - so does that mean the S3C has the same as the V8S or do they just look similar??

The bit that sticks out where the hub attaches is 20mm or so longer - I think thats the only difference to give the V8S/S4 wider track.
Edited to add the other difference is the brake pipe bracket - the V8S has a flexible brake pipe at the rear to allow the rear disc caliper to move.

Yep, that bit is 21mm wider on one side of my car than the other. Aside from that they appear to be identical (cept the newer one is less rusty)

just for comparison, this is my S3 one - you can see the difference in that 21mm measurement

Zombeh, YHM,

Maybe your right trailing arm would fit my car (s1.5), see my recent thread.

You see the trailing arm pics above - there's another bit that bolts on the end which then fits to the car - if yours is like that you may be in luck.
Earlier trailing arms were all one piece.
The two pieces allow shims to be fitted between them to adjust the suspension wizardry.

Edited to add pic below

Yes mine are the one piece sort at the mo, so I would need the bit the bushing goes into as well as the trailing arm itself ( assuming Zombehs keen to get rid).

Don't think so, I think it was like that.

The other side is the same (although I suspect that has been repaired before).

ETA when I say "the same" I mean that it has the triangular bit, not that it has an effing great hole in the side.)

If they are one piece you are going to have to do both sides if you go to 2 piece trailing arms - and Zombeh will only have the main part of the trailing arm to sell as thats all I have sold to him of the V8S trailing arm (because thats all I have!).

Adrian Venn might be your cheapest option - thats who did TVRGIT's above - top job

If you change to the later ones I would imagine you will need to change the driveshafts as I would have thought they would be 20mm longer or doesn't it work like that??

When the wrong trailing arm was fitted to mine there's no mention of driveshafts on the bill (and a big bill it was too), so I guess you can go from v8/s4 arms to s3 without changing the shafts, so presumably you can also change the other way with no problems?

Are the shafts not all standard sierra ones?

There's quite a bit of telescopic movement on the driveshafts to allow for the suspension movement so I think you'd get away with that 21mm difference

Steve what did they do to get the brake hose bracket near the hub - did they glue something on to accomodate it?
It wouldn't have been there as the S3 rigid pipe would go straight into the wheel cylinder on the S3 drum brakes, there wouldn't be a flexi pipe at the hub.

They've welded a little bracket on (the dirty grey bit in the out of focus photo)

Which kinda makes it clear they knew they were fitting the wrong one and did it anyway
